Cruise on the broads

Posted by peterska2 on May 14, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 5:16 pm

This afternoon I’ve been on a cruise on the Norfolk Broads on a Mississippi paddle boat. It was a lovely afternoon for it. Not too hot or sunny but really pleasent. The captain did a commentary too telling us about the different broads, buildings and wildlife. There were a lot of different birds about with their chicks. It was lovely to just relax on the boat after quite a hectic week. I throughly enjoyed it!

Transport Museum

Posted by peterska2 on May 14, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 12:39 pm

I’ve been to a transport museum this morning. While there I saw a lot if the old buses and trams and an old train. It was really good. We could have unlimited rides on the train, trams and a trolley bus too. I don’t know why they don’t bring back the trams and trolley buses. Of course it would cost a lot to put the infrastructure back in place for them, but they are so much quieter, better for the environment and probably cheaper to run in the long run. It makes sense to me at this time when they are going on about being environmentally freindly with everything. Even electric cars have been coming back again over the last few years. The people at the museum were saying how reliable the trams and trolley busses that they have are. It made us laugh when we came out again to come back to the hotel and our coach had broke down so we had to get on the other one with the other group. It just proved a point that things these days are not built to last!

I took some photos (haven’t fixed the date on my camera yet though!) which I’ll upload at weekend when I have net access again.

Flixton Aviation Museum

Posted by peterska2 on May 13, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 5:02 pm

I’ve spent some time at the aviation museum in Flixton this afternoon. It was really interesting and I got to take lots of photos.

Unfortunately we didn’t really have enough time there. I would have liked to have had a couple of hours minimum there and we only had an hour, so it was pretty much a quick dash around to look at as much as possible and to take photos of as many things as possible so for every photo I took I also took one of the information plaque so that I can read it later.

I’ve just imported the photos to my computer and I’m laughing at myself. I had noticed that the date and time on my camera were wrong so I changed it. I’ve put the date in the wrong format though, so the dates have come out as 09/05/2013 instead of 13/05/2009. I’ll have to remember to correct that again before tomorrow! At least the time is right even if the date is wrong though!

There’s no entertainment on tonight, so after dinner I’ll probably have a bath and an early night. Going to go and have a drink or two with a few people now. They said they would save me a spot in the hotel bar. It’s really good that everyone is getting on so well. It is making it a great holiday. In fact, I’ll probably book another of these for later in the year to get away for a few days again.

Bury St Edmunds

Posted by peterska2 on May 13, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 12:11 pm

I’ve gone to Bury St Edmunds today. I’m currently enjoying the peace from the hustle and bustle of the town center while sitting in the beautiful abbey gardens. There are so many flowers that have been carefully laid out that it really is a mass of colors. There are a lot of birds around too which are all singing. I’ve not got far enough through the gardens yet to get to the abbey itself. I can hear singing coming from somewhere. I’m going to go and investigate and see if I can find both where it is coming from and also where the abbey itself is.

Sandringham

Posted by peterska2 on May 12, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 4:53 pm

I’ve been to Sandringham Estate today which is one of the Queen’s county retreats. We got to go around a bit of it and of was really nice to see. There were a lot of impressive tabastries and paintings as well as a huge amount of ornaments. The gun room was impressive too - wall to wall with cases with rifles in that belonged to all difeerent members of the royal family.

We also got to go and have a look around the church on the estate. That is only small but is really impressive with a silver pulpit and altar as well as beautiful stained glass windows.

I’m a bit dissapointed though - I took a lot of pictures and none of them came out. It was really sunny and that must have affected it. Oh well nothing I can do about it so no point worrying.

Just relaxing now before having dinner at 18:30 then we are going to play bingo again before tonights live act comes on. I wonder what is for dinner and what the entertainment will be? Will find out soon enough anyway.

Bingo!

Posted by peterska2 on May 11, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 10:23 pm

Part of tonights entertainment was playing bingo. Now I’ve not played bingo for probably 3 years maybe more. Anyway, I decided that I would have a bash and bought a book of tickets to play. I was gutted when I only needed one number with the first game, but then I won the second game and got a prize of £9! I was only one number away in the lay game too which had a prize of £20. I think everyone else would have thought it was fixed if I had of won that one too though so it was probably a good thing I didn’t ;)
The entertainment is still going on, but after a few drinks and knowing that I have to be up early every day, I’ve decided to call it a night. After all, breakfast is at 7:45 tomorrow as we have to leave at 9:15 to get to Sandringham. I really don’t want to be the one that holds the coach up!

I must remember to pick up the camera tomorrow before leaving.

Oh tea was lovely! I had the breaded mushrooms, pork with braised red cabbage, and caramel apple pie and custard. Cooked breakfasts are on the menu every day too, so I doubt I’m going to want much lunch any day! That’s great though - I’d rather fill up on free food and have that do me all day than have to pay lots for lunches too as they are not included.

I’m getting on well with the other people that I’ve mingled with so far, which is great. Just a shame that there are no decent single guys - there’s only really one if I wasn’t fussy, and he can talk for Britain! You just can’t get a word in edgeways and you can hardly get rid of him once he starts! I really hate people like that!!!!

Holidays!

Posted by peterska2 on May 11, 2009 in Holidays 2009 at 5:06 pm

Well here I am on my holidays in Great Yarmouth. I arrived about an hour ago after a pleasent journey down on the coach. Everyone that I’ve spoke to so far has been really nice. Our coach driver, Derek, is a Geordie and he is slighty crazy and really nice.

The hotel is nice. It’s right on the front. Litterally walk out the door, cross the road, and go down the steps onto the beach. There’s a pier almost opposite too.

I will be taking lots of pictures of things, but they won’t get uploaded until I get some net access. There isn’t any here in the hotel which surprised me a bit.

I’m just relaxing with a drink in the bar before I go and get ready for dinner. I’ve looked at the menu and it looks yummy! I think I’ll probably have the breaded mushrooms, then the pork loin (unless I change my mind and hve the salmon), and there is a lovely gateaux on the desert section which I’ll probably have if I have room left, otherwise I’ll chicken and just have icecream.

I’m going to have a busy yet relaxing week. There are a lot of trips organized, so I’m going to be doing a lot of things including visiting Sandringham Palace, a transport museum, the smallest pub in England, an aviation museum, and a cruise on a paddle boat. I’m gonna have a great time though - so far so good!

On the road again

Posted by peterska2 on Apr 30, 2009 in Uncategorized at 7:34 pm

I’m on the road again! I really need to experiment with different places to stop though. I always stop in the same places and while they are great when heading south, they are not really the right places to stop when going north again. Oh well, maybe next time. I’m already stopped now! Might have to have an extra stop though this time, my car is driving like a tank with all the extra weight of some stuff that I picked up in it. If I didn’t know any better I’d think I was driving the Ford Orion diesel I had a number of years ago - it feels that heavy! Actually, the stuff I’m loaded up with probably weighs nearly as much as my car!

Had a good couple of days and had quite a few laughs as well as getting other stuff done. I’ll be glad to get home though! It’s always nice to have new toys and take time to set them all up nice, although I also love sleeping in my own bed too!

I got a call this afternoon saying that my tickets have arrived for my holiday, so can go and pick them up tomorrow. I’m getting so excited about it! I can’t believe it’s nearly here!
